    What a Mirth Connect build actually involves

    Mirth Connect (now NextGen Connect) is the most widely deployed open-source healthcare interface engine. It routes messages through channels — each with a source connector, one or more destination connectors, and transformer/filter steps written in JavaScript — supporting HL7 v2 (MLLP), FHIR, X12, delimited files, database reads, and web services.

    The engine is easy to start and easy to get wrong. Production interface engines live or die on error handling, message reprocessing, alerting, and channel design that stays maintainable as interface counts grow.
