Voice AI for Healthcare

    Healthcare voice AI agents

Routine scheduling, refill and reminder calls tie up front desk staff all day. Agnotic builds voice AI agents that handle those calls, book into your EHR and pass anything clinical to a person.

What is healthcare voice AI agent development?

Healthcare voice AI agent development is building software that answers and places patient phone calls, understands speech and completes tasks such as scheduling, refills, reminders and intake. Agnotic Technologies builds these agents for providers, connected to the EHR and phone system, with call recording controls, PHI safeguards and a clear handoff to staff.

The agent books through the EHR's scheduling APIs with only the access the health system grants. Symptoms, upset callers and anything it cannot finish go to a person with a call summary attached.

What does a healthcare voice AI agent include?

The parts Agnotic builds into each voice agent, from speech handling to EHR write-back.

    Ambient capture pipeline

How does ambient voice capture become a note?

Ambient voice capture becomes a note through seven stages: consent, microphone capture, speaker separation, streaming speech-to-text, note drafting, clinician sign-off and audio retention or deletion. We build each stage as its own service, so it can be tested, logged and replaced without rebuilding the rest.

    1. Consent prompt

Before capture starts, the app confirms the patient has agreed to recording, using the script your counsel approved, and stores the answer with the encounter.

    2. Room or phone microphone capture

Audio comes from the clinician's phone, a room device or a telehealth call. The app checks input quality, buffers on the device if the network drops and encrypts audio before it leaves.

    3. Speaker separation

Diarization labels who is speaking (clinician, patient or family member), so the draft attributes symptoms, history and instructions to the right person.

    4. Streaming speech-to-text

Audio is transcribed as it streams, with a medical vocabulary for drug names, anatomy and abbreviations. Words the model is unsure of stay flagged rather than guessed.

    5. Note drafting

A language model drafts the note in the specialty's template from the transcript and the chart context it is given, and marks any statement it could not ground in either.

    6. Clinician review and sign-off

The clinician edits and signs the draft in the EHR or a SMART on FHIR app. Nothing is filed to the chart until it is signed.

    7. Audio retention or deletion

After sign-off, audio and transcripts are kept or deleted under the retention policy you set, and every deletion is logged.

    Facts and sources

What rules apply to healthcare voice AI agents?

Regulations and frameworks we design every voice agent around, each linked to its primary source.

    • The HIPAA Security Rule requires administrative, physical and technical safeguards for electronic protected health information.

Source: 45 CFR Part 164 Subpart C (eCFR)
    • A HIPAA covered entity may share protected health information with a business associate, such as a software vendor, only under a business associate agreement that commits the vendor to safeguard it.

      Source: 45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.504(e) (eCFR)
    • FCC rules bar calls to a wireless number using an artificial or prerecorded voice unless the call is made for emergency purposes or with the prior express consent of the called party.

      Source: 47 CFR 64.1200(a)(1) (eCFR)
    • The NIST AI Risk Management Framework is a voluntary framework that organizes AI risk work into four functions: Govern, Map, Measure and Manage.

    Frequently Asked Questions

A voice AI agent can answer and place routine patient calls: booking, rescheduling and cancelling appointments, refill requests, reminders and pre-visit intake questions. It confirms the caller's identity before discussing PHI and hands the call to staff when the request is clinical or outside its scope.

Ready to build a healthcare voice AI agent?

Tell us which calls you want to automate. We'll return a scoped plan for a first release: call flows, EHR and phone connections, and PHI controls.
